What is MCode Stack?
MiniMax published MCode Stack on GitHub on October 28 (GitHub). It is not a model but the company's engineering workflow for coding agents, packaged as reusable skills. It contains 17 skills in the SKILL.md format plus 5 checklists. Ronny at MiniMax wrote 15 of the skills and Jiachen wrote 2.
What is inside?
- independent-review: the reviewing agent sees only the diff, the requirement and the tests, not the author agent's reasoning;
- subagent-split-check: decides whether a task is worth splitting across subagents;
- tool-budget-audit: checks how many tool calls a task consumes;
- harness-experiment: treats harness changes as measured experiments;
- long-command-check: a 10-point checklist before long-running commands.
The engineering-* skills are adapted from Google Engineering Practices and are available under CC-BY 3.0 (MarkTechPost). Install it in Claude Code or MiniMax Code with /plugin marketplace add MiniMax-AI/mcode-stack.
What to watch
MiniMax has not published evals showing how much these skills improve agent results. It is a collection based on experience, not measured outcomes.
What it means for you
If you use Claude Code or another agent that understands SKILL.md, the independent review and subagent split skills are quick to try on your own repo. Add them one at a time so you can see which ones actually help.
