What changed?

On October 21 at GTC Berlin, NVIDIA announced that European automakers and mobility providers are showcasing autonomous use cases on its Hyperion platform (NVIDIA Newsroom). We already covered the Alpamayo 2 Edge model in our GTC Berlin open models story, so the news here is the partners and new tools.

Partners

  • Volvo Cars is building future automated driving on Hyperion, Halos OS and Alpamayo Stack software.
  • Bolt picked Alpamayo Stack for its European robotaxi program. Data collection is planned in Madrid in 2027, subject to regulatory approval. Germany is a priority market, with a planned rollout of at least 25,000 L4-capable Lucid vehicles on Hyperion.
  • Mercedes-Benz is extending the partnership to L3 and L4 capabilities. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO, developed with NVIDIA, is expected to soon get approval for urban point-to-point driver assistance in Germany.
  • Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (ID. Buzz AD), Einride (autonomous trucks), TIER IV and the Technical University of Munich (public transport) are also building on Hyperion.

Developer tools

  • Halos SAFE is an evaluation framework that links simulation, hardware-in-the-loop tests, road testing and fleet monitoring into measurable, traceable safety evidence. Partners include dSPACE, IVEX and TÜV Rheinland.
  • AlpaJudge is a human-calibrated evaluation and reward model that scores driving explanations.
  • Foundation4D labels multicamera video without lidar.
  • New Cosmos 3 Nano variants generate synthetic multicamera and lidar data.
  • NIM microservices for Alpamayo 1.5 and NuRec Harmonizer. The Alpamayo Agentic Factory blueprint arrives in early 2027.

Why it matters

Europe has moved more slowly on robotaxis than the U.S. or China. Bolt's plan and Volvo joining show NVIDIA wants to be the shared platform here too. Volumes and dates are plans, and regulatory approvals are still pending.
