Nebius and NVIDIA put $10M behind EU AI builders

On October 19 Nebius announced a European expansion of its AI Builder Program. The $10M package covers compute grants, investor introductions and community programs with Accel, NVIDIA and European VCs. The aim is a stronger open, independent AI stack in Europe.

Where the $10M goes

The program has three legs. Compute grants go to European projects on open models, agent runtimes, inference tooling, post-training, RL, evaluation or data tooling. Capital comes next: Accel and a wider European VC network introduce founders who turn repos into companies. Community is the third leg: hackathons and demo days with AI Tinkerers, {Tech: Europe} and ESRA (Nebius).

Why Europe

Nebius is European-headquartered. It notes that Europe produces about a fifth of the world's AI research and has shipped widely used open models and tools. The goal is for more of those projects to grow into lasting companies here, not stop at research demos.

Accel's Matt Weigand stresses open source. AI Tinkerers founder Joe Heitzeberg talks about builders' "10,000x vote": model, tool and infrastructure choices propagate through the agents they deploy. Nebius VP Waqas Makhdum names compute, scaling help and local communities as the three pillars.

What came before

The global AI Builder Program launched in September. Thousands applied within weeks. The Nebius × NVIDIA Global AI Hackathon already has more than 24,000 participants. Builders & Brews build days reached 20 cities, with speakers from n8n, Lovable, Nous Research, Replit and LangChain among others.

If you build open AI in Europe, applications start from the Nebius blog. Selection favors work that strengthens the open stack and helps other builders.
