What's new?

On October 23, AWS added two controls to Web Search on Bedrock (AWS), the feature that supplies the web results a model uses to ground its responses. Both are configured on the web_search tool in your existing OpenAI Responses API request.

  • Domain filtering: use the filters parameter to set up to 100 allowed_domains so results come only from trusted sources, or up to 100 blocked_domains to exclude sites you don't want.
  • User location: optional location parameters return results relevant to a given geography, useful for questions about regional availability or local services.

Where it's available

In all regions where Web Search is supported: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon) and AWS GovCloud (US-West). No European region is listed yet. Pricing is on the Bedrock pricing page.

Why it matters

Enterprise RAG and agent apps often need the model to cite only vetted sources, such as their own documentation or official sites. Domain filtering makes that a request-level setting instead of post-filtering results. European users should still weigh data residency, given the US-only regions.
