What was announced?

SAP announced a range of AI features for developers at its TechEd conference (SAP News). Joule Work now supports the A2A and MCP protocols, and third-party agents can invoke Joule Agents through a governed agent gateway.

Tools for developers

  • SAP Enterprise AI Gateway: a central entry point for models and agents.
  • An AI Governance Assistant that helps with EU AI Act compliance.
  • n8n workflows in Joule Studio, currently for early adopters.
  • Observability in Joule Studio, with support for more than 70 models.

The runtime for custom agents is free through December 2026. On the data side, the Business Data Cloud Ontology Manager, a Dremio integration with Iceberg and Polaris, and SAP Databricks received updates (SiliconANGLE).

New models

The SAP-RPT-2.0 tabular foundation model adds anomaly detection and multitable support. It is joined by SAP-RPT-TS, a time series forecasting model. SAP says SAP-RPT has also been deployed on the International Space Station with HPE.

Why it matters

MCP and A2A are now baseline expectations in enterprise software. If your company runs SAP, Joule agents can connect to other vendors' agents instead of staying inside one ecosystem. Tabular models also help where LLMs are weak: structured business data.
